I Wanna LEARN!

Although there's nothing major to report about, I thought I'd mention that I'm currently making a website for new mappers such as myself. It's policy will be 'newbies helping newbies'. It's still early in development, but I hope to get it up and running soon. The name of the website?

LEARN -- Level Editing And Resources for Newbies

If enough people are interested in it, I'll think about adding a forum onto the site to allow better communication and quicker sharing of ideas and tips. Although it's newbies helping newbies, veterans are allowed to contribute, too.

I've also decided to take a break from playing DOOM 3 for a while and just concentrate on mapping for it whenever I have the motivation. I've just got a little bit to do, but there's hardly any motivation, probably because DOOMEdit keeps messing up for no reason, despite the fact that I have a pretty good PC.

I also tried the F.E.A.R. demo not that long ago. Good and scary mixed with cool action, just like DOOM 3. I'll definitely be getting this game! If you liked DOOM 3, you'll enjoy F.E.A.R.!

Almost There...

The ending is coming together. Soon, I'll release the final version of this map and then I'll be on my way to starting my next one.

I've decided to make this map open-ended should I wish to expand on it by making the player venture deeper underground and maybe enter Hell, itself!

Maybe...

Anyway, for those who have played the Beta release, you may remember I ended the map rather lamely with a small room and an exit switch. Very similar to the original DOOM, yes, but this is DOOM 3! Things have to be realistic! Of course, realism can only go as far as the mapper's ability. I won't comment on mine, since you all know.

Again, for those who played the beta, you may remember hearing your teammates fighting and shouting on the other side of the door you start in front of. They shortly die, thereafter, according to what Betruger cryptically tells you. At the end of the full version, you get to see their mutilated corpses. Joy. Below is a screenshot of the resulting massacre, which I had to Photoshop it so you could see.

New exit area

Hopefully, my next map will be better.

Back To Work!

Work on my map, that is. I've been taking an unintentional break from mapping. The lure of gaming was too strong, but I guess I'm all gamed up and ready to begin mapping, again. That's not to say I'm going to map more than game. Playing is my first love and creating for DOOM 3 comes second, closely followed by sleep in third and here comes chocolate rounding the bend! It's going to be a close one! They're on the straight and-- wait, this is getting ridiculous.

...Anyway, the idea I had for the ending to my map is under construction. Since I'm no good at sticking to target deadlines which I set for myself (you wouldn't believe how many deadlines I've set and missed), I'm not going to set one.

Ah, hell with it. I'll do it, just for kicks. I shall have the final version of Research Labs Sublevel 13 completed by June 12th... 2008. That should give me a bit of elbow room to work with.

Well, it's 2:30 in the morning, right now (in Britain, anyway), so I'm off to be... zzzzz.....
